What is your first reaction towards any ailment? The answer is – treat these ailment in a natural way. Natural things are best in their way. What is this disease and how Ayurveda can cure this? To know these things, first of all we have to know about the ayurvedic treatment concept and disease reason to occur.


It is a word that explores the science involved and related to life. The Sanskrit word Ayurveda itself tell its nature. The word ayur means life and veda means science. Ayurveda is an oldest health care system of India. This heals the diseases by making a balance in science, philosophy and spirituality. The Ayurveda consists all the five elements of nature and combine these elements under three categories, known as natural constituents or doshas.

Air + space involves in vatadosha (controls nerve impulses, circulation and elimination) Fire + water involves in pitta dosha (controls metabolism)

Water + earth involves in kapha dosha (controls growth and protection)
In disorders, these three doshas imbalances to cause problems, individually or collectively.

Water retention is also happens due to imbalance in these doshas.

To know about relationship between doshas and water retention, we should have a clear picture of water retention disease.

WATER RETENTION is a condition when there is an abrupt collection of fluid in the body tissues.

In general, fluid leaks normally in the body tissues from blood. A network of lymphatic tubes are there which take the fluid from the tissues and vacant it back into bloodstream. If there is any problem in this system, then this causes swelling of that particular area.

The problem of water retention can be of two types

First is if the swelling is all over in the body.
Or the swelling is in a specific area.

Why causes this water retention disorder?

General reasons can be

  • Hot weather
  • Burns like sunburn
  • Menstrual cycle
  • Oral contraceptive pills
  • Malnutrition – deficiency of vitamin B1, B6, B5 and albumins etc.
  • Medicines such as of blood pressure and NSAIDs etc.
    Medical circumstances
  • Imbalances in hormones that maintain the fluid imbalance in the body.
    Improper functioning of kidney
  • Heart problems as heart failure
  • Malignant lymphedema
  • Hypothyroidism

Water retention with the problem of swelling can also cause the problem of stiff joints, weight gain and ache in affected parts.

This disorder can be diagnosed through physical examination, blood test, liver, kidney function tests and urine tests.

How to get rid of water retention naturally

The problem of water retention can be cured naturally. Ayurveda has herbs that have great beneficial effect in its treatment.

Ayurveda’s view point regarding water retention:

Water retention is known with the name of shotha or shopha in Ayurveda. InAyurveda it is due to evacuation of doshas. The vata, raktai.e. Blood, pitta and kapha get vitiated, lodged in veins and circulate throughout the body and cause the swelling problem.

Herbs present in nature that can heal the condition of water retention are:

Amalaki – this is known as amla fruit also. This fruit is enriched with vitamin C contents and helps to treat problems like weak immunity, hyperacidity and fluid accumulation and hence treats the problem of water retention.

Punarnava – this plant roots have properties like diuretic, anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling. This herb helps to treat the problems of heart, kidneys, anemia, obesity, stress and fluid retention.

Pippali – it is known as long pepper, have propertiesof rejuvenation. It treats the respiratory and digestive problems. This herbs is very effective in cases of cough, asthma, inflammation, swelling of joints and allergies. This shows fruitful effect against water retention.

Kush or Pushkarmool – a herb that have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, diuretic, cardio protective, rejuvenating properties that helps to treat problems like cough, asthma, heart problems, swelling, blood pressure and inflammations etc. these functions of the herb help to treat water retention problem.

Varuna – This herb known to clear the obstruction in urinary tract and helps to remove excess fluid and toxins present. It helps to reduce swelling also.

These capsules are made up of punarnava herb. These are used provide relief in conditions that can lead to water retention like kidney dysfunction, heart failure and liver problems etc.

Dose – one to two capsules two times in a day, before meal with water.


This natural formulation is present in form of tablets. This consists of herbs like kush, kas, darbh, sar and ikshu. It controls the problems of heart, liver, swelling and water retention.

Dose – 1-2 tablets three time a day, after meal.


This is a great natural formulation that has great effect on the problem of water retention. This formulation is known to have herbs like punarnava, haridra, pippali, amalaki, chitrakmool, shunti, mandoorbhasma, vidanga, maricha and chavya.

Dose – 2 tablets two times with plain water.


This is a formulation prepared by planet Ayurveda especially for the problem of water retention. This formulation consists of herbs like punarnava, gokshura and varuna.

Dose – 1 to 2 tablets with water two times in a day, after meals.

Natural Cure for Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a commonly occurring painful condition affecting woman’s reproductive organs. It happens as a result of tissues lining the uterus growing outside. Generally it grows in the pelvic cavity but it may be found growing on other areas like ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowels, or bladder.


Ayurvedic View For Endometriosis

It can be defined by function as Kapha roga and by location Pitta roga. This is the reason that Kapha dosha is controlling the function of the endometrial tissue growth in the uterus.

What can be causes of Endometriosis?

Specific cause for endometriosis has not been exactly known, but there are several theories.

  • Retrograde menstruation where, menstrual blood having endometrial cells instead of flowing out of the body starts flowing back through the fallopian tubes and into the pelvic cavity, where these cells start sticking to their walls and surfaces where they start growing and continue to thicken and bleed over the course of each menstrual cycle. This happens in about 90% of women but endometriosis occurs only in 1out of 10 women.
  • It may be hereditary. Women having close relative with this condition are 10 times more likely to get endometriosis.
  • Sometimes immune system of certain women is not able to fight against endometriosis properly.
  • It may be caused due to certain toxins present in the environment.
  • Metaplasia may occur where normal pelvic tissue may get converted to endometriosis.
  • After some surgeries, like in hysterectomy or C-section, endometrial cells may get attached to a surgical incision.

Risk Factors

  • Starting of periods at early age.
  • Menopause occurring at an older age.
  • Short menstrual cycles – for instance, less than 27 days
  • Higher levels of estrogen in the body or more lifetime exposure of estrogen our body is producing
  • Low body mass index
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Any medical condition preventing  the normal passage of menstrual flow out of the body
  • Uterine abnormalities

Symptoms and Signs

  • Heavy and Painful Periods with excessive bleeding may result.
  • One may suffer from lower back and abdominal pain.
  • Pain during or aftersex is common with endometriosis.
  • Pain may occurs during bowel movements or urinationespecially during mensuration.
  • Infertility can also be one of the symptom
  • Other symptoms may include like fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, bloating or nausea, especially during menstrual periods.

Natural Cure for Endometriosis



1. Boswellia Curcumin
