The symptoms of KFD generally include chills with a severe headache followed by bleeding gums, throat and the nose. Low platelet levels and low blood pressure is also seen in the KFD patients. Some other common signs and symptoms observed in the patients suffering from KFD are:

  1. Poor vision

The main cause behind the development of KFD is the transmission of virus from vector Haemaphysalis spinigera, a forest tick and other animals including rats, squirrels, etc. The disease develops after the bite from nymphs (immature form) of the ticks or contact with sick or dead monkeys having infection. Although, KFD can’t get transmitted from one human to another by any means of contact.

When you visit a doctor’s clinic, he may recommend several blood tests to determine monkey fever. These blood tests may include ELISA test, hemagglutination inhibition assay (HI), RT-PCR, and a neutralization test to detect Immunoglobulin M antibodies. The initial stage of diagnosis PCR test is recommended and after that ELISA test of the patient is performed.
