ABSTRACT

Pudendal neuralgia is characterized by pain, numbness, and discomfort in genitals or pelvis due to the compression, damage or irritation of a major nerve located in the lower part of the body. This condition results in difficulty in having sexual intercourse, while using the bathroom or during sitting down. Pain is not there constantly but comes and goes on and off. Pudendal neuralgia is a rare condition which affects the pudendal nerve. INTRODUCTION

Pudendal neuralgia is a very painful condition which occurs due to damage to the Pudendal nerve. Pudendal nerve is one of the major nerves that runs to the base of vagina behind the pelvis and to the pelvic floor. This nerve is a messenger that carries the impulses between brain and genitals and also the control of sphincter muscles is done through it. Sphincter muscles close and open while passing stool with the help of the pudendal nerve. When there is some sort of damage, irritation or compression of the Pudendal nerve, a person suffers from Pudendal neuralgia

Pudendal neuralgia can cause really painful and discomforting signs and symptoms

  • Sharp, prickling, stabbing or shooting pain in the perineum or genitals
  • Burning pain and sensation in the lower back and pelvic region
  • Pain in feet, hips and legs
  • Pins and needle sensation or numbness
  • Sensitivity is increased
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Lodged in sensation or swelling in the perineum

CAUSES

Several causes can lead to damage to the pudendal nerve like

  • Injury
  • Surgery of pelvis or hip
  • In women during childbirth
  • Presence of tumor around it
  • Infection
  • Certain types of exercises like cycling
  • Pelvic area bone fracture
  • Endometriosis
  • Repetitive bacterial or yeast infection
  • Neural ischemia or sensitivity

DIAGNOSIS

Proper Physical examination and medical history will point towards the Pudendal neuralgia. Physical examination like per vaginum test is done by inserting the finger into vagina to check the nerve impulses. Pudendal nerve block can also help in diagnosis. It is usually diagnosed early and easily as the signs and symptoms are prominent and striking.

TREATMENT

Treatment of Pudendal neuralgia includes a combination of medicines, physical therapy and changes in lifestyle. Conventionally certain muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatory drugs are given to relieve the symptoms. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

1. Ashwagandha Capsule

These are single herb capsules prepared from standardized extract of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) herb. Ashwagandha capsules help in giving strength to muscles and nerves, prevent their injuries and weakness and relieves overall weakness.

Dosage– Take 1 capsule twice daily after meals with plain water

2. Chandanadi Vati

It is prepared from herbs like Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris), Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Safed chandan (Santalum album), Kabab chini (Piper cubeba), Kapur (Cinnamomum camphora) etc. Chandanadi vati helps in balancing the doshas in the body, relieves burning and pain during urination, prevents and treats urinary tract infections, relieves inflammation and checks the growth of bacteria or yeast in the body.

Dosage– Take 2 tablets twice daily after meals with plain water

3. Kaishore Guggul

Herbs like Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia), Shunthi (Zingiber officinale), Guggul (Commiphora mukul), Maricha (Piper nigrum), Pippali (Piper longum) etc are used in the preparation. 4. Chandraprabha Vati

Chanderprabha vati is prepared using Shilajit (Asphaltum), Guggul (Commiphora mukul), Kapur (Cinnamomum camphora), Hairdra (Curcuma longa), Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia), Chavya (Piper chaba), Mustak (Cyperus rotundus) etc.

5. Kamdudha Ras Moti Yukt

It is a classical preparation which is formulated using Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia), Swarna gairika (Red ochre), Abhrak bhasma (Silica), moti pishti, praval pishti, shankh bhasma etc. Kamdudha ras moti yukta helps in balancing the pitta dosha in the body and relieves the burning sensation anywhere in the body.

6. Boswellia Curcumin

It is prepared from standardized extract of two amazing herbs, i.e. Shallaki (Boswellia serrata) and haridra (Curcuma longa).
