Treatment of Rumination Syndrome with Herbal Remedies
Abstract
Rumination syndrome is a digestive disorder. Digestive system is a very complex system. The human body uses the process of digestion to break down the food into energy. This digestive system extends from the mouth to the anus. The main functions of the digestive system is receiving food, breaking it down into nutrients and absorbing these nutrients into the bloodstream and at last eliminating the indigestive parts of food from the body. But sometimes our bad habit of eating makes our digestive system weak and causes many digestive ailments such as indigestion, GERD, IBD, rumination syndrome etc. So in this article we are going to discuss one of the digestive problems called Rumination syndrome and its ayurvedic aspect in detail.
Introduction
Rumination syndrome is a condition in which people find it difficult to store their food into the stomach. This syndrome is characterized by effortless regurgitation of the meals after consumption. This is due to involuntary contraction of the abdominal muscles. Rumination happens soon after every meal. Regurgitation occurs when recently ingested food rises or comes up into the oesophagus, throat and mouth, but involuntarily expelled out from the mouth as it is vomiting. There is no nausea, retching, heartburn or abdominal pain associated with the regurgitation. This is because regurgitated food remains undigested.
