Herbal Remedies for The Treatment of Isaacs’ syndrome

Isaacs’ syndrome is known as neuromyotonia, a rare neurological disorder which causes uncontrollable muscle activity. A neurological disorder is a disorder that affects the nervous system, structurally, biochemically and electrical abnormalities of the brain and spinal cord which results in the arrival of symptoms. The nerves and spinal cord are enclosed in the tough membrane which is further enclosed in the skull and is isolated by the blood-brain barrier. It can be due to genetic causes, lifestyle changes and sometimes environmental health problems. Neuroregeneration occurs in the peripheral nervous system. The nervous system is made of nerves which are like cables that carry electrical impulses between the brain and the rest of the body. Nerve cells are known as neurons which are present all over the body together with the brain and spinal cord they are known as the nervous system. There are generally two nerves that are Cranial nerves (12 pairs of nerves which originate in the brain and extend to the face and head), Spinal nerves (31 pairs of spinal nerves which branch out from the spinal cord). These nerves send you the electrical signal from one part to another which controls blood pressure, digestion and voluntary movements. In this article, we are going to discuss its causes, symptoms and ayurvedic management in detail further in the article.

Isaacs’ syndrome is a rare neuromuscular syndrome which causes the nerves within your peripheral nervous system and causes uncontrollable muscle activity. Muscle movement occurs continuously even if the patient is in anesthesia. It is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues. It is known as neuromyotonia which is autoimmune peripheral nerve hyperexcitability which is thought to be voltage-gated potassium channelopathy. Neuromyotonia can be hereditary or acquired. It is known as Continuous Muscle Fibre Activity Syndrome, Isaacs Merten Syndrome and Quantal Squander Syndrome. This condition makes the nerves fire too much which over-stimulates your muscles and reflexes and muscles which further causes muscle stiffness and excessive cramps which may affect your daily activities and sometimes affect the autonomic nervous system which leads to changes in heart rate and sweating. The nervous system is the controlling, regulatory and communicating system in the body. The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord and other sensory organs which connect these organs with the rest of the body. Vata dosha is responsible for the control of all nervous systems in the body. Diseases caused by the Vata in the vitiated condition are known as vatavyadhi. Vata is a tantra which runs the body and controls the mind, senses and perception. There are more than 80 nanataja vyadhi and divides the Vata vyadhi into two types- Dhatukshyajanya and Margavrodhajanya. In the case of Dhatukshyajanya pain is reduced by touching or giving some pressure. But in the case of Margavrodhajanya, the pain is aggravated by touching or applying pressure.

Mainly Prana Vata is located in the head i.e brain,  Prana Vata circulated in the chest and controls the function of the heart and lungs and provides proper perception to sense organs. Vata needs to be balanced between stability and stabilising the balance of Vata doshas. When these doshas are vitiated it creates havoc inside our body and triggers the pain. It acts on the weakest point of our body and triggers the pain and disease itself.  There is some relation of pitta doshas with the nervous system as the brain is the seat of sadhaka pitta, The tarpaka Kapha is located in the head around the brain which helps to nourish the sense organs and acts as a buffer.
