Abstract

Reiter’s syndrome and Reactive arthritis are both the same term. Reiter’s syndrome is a condition of swelling and pain in the joint that is provoked by contamination from another body part, mostly the genitals, urinary tract and intestines. This situation often targets the ankles, feet and knees. Infection may also affect the skin, urethra, and eyes. It is not common. Introduction

Reactive arthritis is an inflammatory condition that manifests later some days to week after genitourinary or gastrointestinal infection. It has triad of- Conjunctivitis, Urethritis and Arthritis. Most patients are not presented with this triad. It is caused by campylobacter, chlamydia, salmonella or shigella.

Ayurvedic overview

In Ayurveda, we can correlate Reiter’s syndrome with aagantuj vyadhi that means the disease which occurs by other external factors such as virus, air, water, soil, bacteria, injury by stick, weapon or stick, toxins and poison effect, etc. It leads to vitiation of pitta dosha that results in swelling and inflammation of the joint and further deranges the other dosha (Vata and Kapha) and develops signs and symptoms.

Treatment

The management of this disease is fighting with infection and pacifying the vitiated dosha. Products Description

1. Boswellia+Curcumin

It is a poly herbal capsule containing shallaki (Boswellia serrata) and haridra (Curcuma longa). Its taste is bitter and hot in effect. It balances all the three doshas in the body-Vata, Pitta and Kapha dosha. It is unctuous, sticky, sharp, light and dry. It contains organic compounds and inorganic ions and also has mineral matter that includes calcium, silicon dioxide, iron, volatile oil, and magnesium. It is a very potent medicine for various types of joint problems such as osteo-arthritis, gout and rheumatoid arthritis. It helps in reducing pain, tenderness and swelling of the inflamed joints. It is also known to stimulate expectoration, immuno-stimulant and that which promotes menstrual discharge. It is an anti inflammatory as well anti lipemic. It is indicated in obesity.

Dose:- 1 Capsule twice daily

2. Amalaki rasayan

It is a single herbal capsule consisting of amalaki (Emblica officinalis). It has a sweet, astringent, bitter and pungent taste. It is cold, light and dry in effect. It is a rich source of vitamin C. It contains fiber, iron, phosphorus, calcium, carotene, vitamin B complex, carbohydrates and proteins. It pacifies all the three doshas-vata, pitta and kapha. It removes the stubborn and recurring infections of the urinary tract. It also acts as a booster for all the physiological systems of the body. It is indicated in hyperacidity, peptic ulcer, urinary and genital tract diseases, eye problems, jaundice, cough, edema, asthma, general emaciation, leucorrhea, fever and anemia. 3. Yograj guggul

It is a herbal tablet containing various herbs like guggul (Commiphora mukul), amalaki (Emblica officinalis), haritaki (Terminalia chebula), bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica), pippali (Piper longum), etc. It pacifies all the three dosha-vata, pitta and kapha. It is light, sharp and unctuous. It is antipyretic, digestive, carminative, diuretic, aphrodisiac, immuno-stimulant and a tonic. It enhances absorption of other active ingredients of the medicinal compound. It helps in relieving various respiratory problems like allergies, spasms and infections. It is also indicated in hiccup, jaundice, sinusitis, abdominal gas, piles, constipation, indigestion, loss of appetite, urinary tract infection and helps in dissolving glandular swellings.

Dose:- 2 Tablet twice daily

4. Aamvatantak churna

It is made from powder form of various types of herbs containing ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), methi (Trigonella foenum graecum), haridra (Curcuma longa), etc. It is sweet, astringent and bitter in taste and hot, light and unctuous in effect. It aggravates pitta but pacifies kapha and vata dosha. It contains carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and protein. It is mainly digestive, appetizer, anti flatulent, mildly laxative and anti inflammatory. It helps in relieving indigestion, colic and distension. It is very useful in arthritis, low backache, sciatica and muscular pains. It is diuretic, aphrodisiac, mild sedative and induces good sleep. It has various antioxidants and hormone precursors that lead to regulating important functions of the body. It improves body strength and stamina.

5. Ashwagandhaghan vati

It is a herbal tablet containing ashwagandha (Withania somnifera). It is a tonic, rejuvenating factor and potent spermatogenic. It is bitter, sweet and astringent in taste and light, hot and unctuous in effect. It has a tonic effect on the brain and the nervous system.
