Significance of Molecule C60 in Medicine Science or Are There Any Relevant Ayurvedic Herbs
Abstract
C60 is a molecule that is made up of 60 atoms. These atoms join together and form a shape like a soccer ball. It is gathered that size, hydrophobicity, three-dimensionality and electronic arrangements make them an engaging subject in therapeutic science. It was used in nanotechnology and electronics. It has antioxidants, antivirals, muscle relaxants, and anti-aging properties. In today’s industry, it can be used in many drugs and cosmetic products. In this article, we will discuss the significance of c60 molecules in detail and their correlation with herbs.
Introduction
Carbon is the common element in organic compounds and exists in two allotropic forms i.e. diamond and graphite. There is also a third form of carbon called fullerenes. It was discovered by three scientists kroto, curl and smalley in 1985. Carbon 60 is made up of a group of atoms. There are a total 60 carbon atoms present in this molecule. These carbon atoms are joined together by single or double bonds. Its shape is just like a soccer ball and is also called a bucky ball. This molecule may be tube, ellipsoid, sphere and many other shapes. The molecular weight of c60 is 720.660 g/mol and the density of c60 is 1.65 g/dm. It has many properties such as antioxidant properties which protect cells from free radicals, antiviral, anti inflammatory, anti allergic and anti cancer etc. It is stable at high temperature and pressure. In ayurveda many herbs have the same properties just like c60 molecules such as ashwagandha, amla and patla etc. In this article we will discuss these herbs in detail.
Applications of c60 molecule
1. Antiviral activity
The compounds having antiviral activities have great medical value. This molecule has antiviral properties and it is very useful in the management of HIV infection.
2. Antioxidant activity
It also acts as a biological antioxidant. It is mainly used for fighting ageing, acne and other skin diseases. It is also useful in heart-related disorders.
3. Muscle relaxant
It helps in fatigue and muscle relaxation.
4. Inflammatory conditions
It also shows wonderful results in inflammatory conditions.
5. Anti-allergic properties
Mast cells are the main cause of starting allergic response in the human body. Fullerenes act on these cells and control allergic reactions.
6. In asthma and arthritis
Mast cells also play an important role in asthma and arthritis. So fullerenes stops the action of these cells and is helpful in the management of both diseases.
7. Cognition booster
It is very useful in improving brain health and making people alert and active.
8. Cancer
It has wonderful results in the management of cancer.
Other applications
- It can be used in personal care product
- As catalyst
- In solar cells
- In water purification
- As organic photovoltaics
- As molecular wires
- As sensors
- Hardening of metals
- In hydrogen gas storage
Types of fullerene
- Buckminsterfullerene
- Herbal fullerenes
- Linked bucky ball and chain dimers
- Megatubes
- Nanotubes
- Buckyball clusters
- Herbal fullerenes
- Endohedral fullerene
Some of its types are as follows
1. Buckyball clusters
Buckyball clusters are the smallest member of the fullerene group and are unsaturated versions of dodecahedra. The structural formula of this member is c20.
2. Nanotubes
It is very helpful in the electronics industry and this has hollow tubes of very small dimensions. These have single or multiple walls.
3. Megatubes
These have a larger diameters as compared to nanotubes. Different thicknesses of walls make this structure
4. Linked wall and chain dimer
In this structure, two buckyballs are linked with the help of carbon atoms.
Properties
Chemical properties
C60 molecule shows many properties, some of its properties are as follows
- Topology
- Bonding
- Encapsulation
- Research
- Aromaticity
Physical properties
- It is insoluble in water
- Insulator (do not conduct electricity)
- It has a low melting point
- It is very hard but can be easily broken
Side effects of c60 molecule
According to a review, it was found that C60 is not toxic in humans as well as animals. Human and animal studies show that there is an uncommon side effect on the application of C60. Though more research is needed on this. When it is applied to the skin it is found possibly safe when it is used for up to eight weeks. So we can say that it has no side effects but it has some health risks.
It is very sensitive to light. If it is exposed to light for a long time then it is very dangerous to health.
Ingestion of c60 solutions and if it is exposed to light for a long time then it also leads to cancer.
