AYURVEDIC TREATMENT OF GLOBAL LV HYPOKINESIA

Heart palpitation, Irregular heartbeat, Ayurvedic treatment for Global LV Hypokinesia

Hypokinesia literally means a slow and compromised heart function due to weakness in a part or whole of the heart. Global hypokinesia means the weakness involves all the heart muscles.

Blockages of one or more arteries may also be involved.

Our heart is four chambered with two atria and two ventricles which are separated vertically by a septum and transversely they are separated by the bicuspid and tricuspid valves on the left and right sides respectively.

The left ventricle of the heart supplies blood to all the parts of the body via Aorta. The efficacy with which the blood is pumped through aorta to all the parts of the body determines the efficiency of the heart. This phenomenon is known as ejection fraction.

Normal ejection fraction varies from 50 – 75%.

An ejection fraction below 37% is considered abnormal.

Global hypokinesia often results in heart failure which may eventually turn into a congestive heart failure and affect all other body parts. It often occurs as a result of cardiomyopathies, ischemic heart disease and heart attack.

Global left ventricular (LV) hypokinesia occurs as a result of the comprised left ventricular function which is accompanied by thickening of its walls and the adjacent interventricular septum.

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF GLOBAL LV HYPOKINESIA

1. Water and fluid retention –

Heart failure causes reduced flow of blood to all the organs of the body. As a result, there is reduced return of blood to the heart. It results in stasis of blood in the extremities and in the abdomen causing bloating, edema, frequent urination, nausea and loss of appetite.

2. Irregular heartbeat/ palpitation –

In order to meet the body’s requirements, a hypokinetic heart pumps blood with more strength and beats faster. This makes the patient feel his own heart beating all the time. A condition known as palpitation.

In this process, the regular rhythm of the heart beat is also disturbed causing irregular beating.

3. Lung congestion –

Lung congestion occurs as there occurs accumulation of excess fluid in all the body cavities including the lungs. As a result, severe patient experiences problems like wheezing, difficulty in breathing while lying down, disturbance in sleep patterns because of that, cough and cold etc.
